The number of people who develop melanoma (mole cancer) has doubled from 1982 to 2011. Sunburn increases the risk of melanoma and nearly 40% of the US population becomes sunburned each year. Data from the American Cancer Society shows that the total lifetime risk continues to increase each year and is currently 1 in 40 for whites. Blacks and Hispanics have a much lower risk of developing this cancer. Please use sunscreens daily and don’t use indoor tanning devices!
