A study revealed that women who develop menopause later in life (age 55 or older) and women who were treated with menopausal hormonal therapy had a higher risk of developing the most common type of skin cancer (basal cell carcinoma). This is thought to be due to longer exposure to the hormone estrogen. This hormone can react with ultraviolet light in the skin and cause damage to the skin cells. Please use sunscreens daily to help prevent skin damage.
